Deven P. Sharma awarded the title of “Professor of Medicine”

Since graduating Blue Marble University Medical School with an M.D. degree in December 2016, Dr. Sharma has had an amazing career which has been an honor not only for himself but also which has honored our University.
Even though our Medical School offers only an executive-style Doctor of Medicine program not intended for clinical careers, Dr. Sharma has exemplified how far one can go and what high achievements one can acquire with a lot of hard work and dedication.
Armed only with the M.D. degree from Blue Marble University Medical School, Dr. Sharma wasted no time after graduation in pursuing his health career. In 2017, he completed clinical training in Oncology at the Christie-NHS Trust Hospital in Manchester (United Kingdom).
From there, he continued his adventures in lifestyle medicine. He contacted the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine (IBLM). Based on his qualifications, he had to do a health-related master’s level degree from an accredited educational institute. He found and completed the “Masters in E-Health & Telemedicine Management” (METM) from UCAM University in Spain. This allowed him to sit for board certification resulting in his Certification as Lifestyle Medicine Professional. This permitted Dr. Sharma to practice lifestyle medicine. The program took 1 year for the training in Medical Laser Therapy for Pain Management and Rehabilitation. For low level laser, which he uses for pain management, there is no licensing requirement. However, without recognized training you are likely to have problems with insurance payments. In 2020 IDr. Sharma completed the Lifestyle Medicine Certification with European Lifestyle Medicine Organization and began acting as the ELMO Ambassador in New Zealand (Oceania). ELMO is The European Lifestyle Medicine Organization. At the moment he is the sole ambassador in New Zealand. He has completed his fellowship training with the Australian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and is now designated as “Fellow” (FASLM) of the Society.
In mid-2020 Dr. Sharma purchased a specialist practice that had already been established for 25 years. He became the CEO of this practice and is now adding lifestyle medicine to this practice. His MD provides tremendous scope in practical terms for non-clinical work, and the job of CEO is much easier with an MD education. This is the Ellerslie Clinic (formerly Kilpan & Associates) in Auckland, New Zealand. The clinic includes specialist psychiatrists, psychologists and other health care professionals. The practice is an accredited supplier of health services to private health insurers, government agencies, and private paying patients.
For his second stage, not being satisfied with these accomplishments, Dr. Sharma completed a 2 year (1000 hr.) Clinical Fellowship in Integrative Health & Medicine with Honors (FAIHM-Honors) from the California based Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM). AIHM is an accredited member of the USA based Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health (https://imconsortium.org/) and Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health Council https://integrativehealth.org/. This is an approved and accredited academic program of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM).
This is the first time ever that an MD graduate of our university with a non-clinical MD has been able to enter the program and successfully complete it, and complete it well: Dr. Sharma scored 98% in the final OSCE exam. This and other continuing clinical education led to his approval as a Health Professional in Fiji.
Finally, Dr. Sharma has become certified as a Doctor of Integrative Medicine, with the Board of Integrative Medicine (BOIM) in Canada, and currently practices in Fiji and New Zealand.
It is with these accomplishments in mind that the University is please to bestow upon Deven P. Sharma M.D. the Title of: Professor of Medicine, Blue Marble University Medical School; and to henceforth be referred to as:
Professor Dr. Deven P. Sharma, M.D.
